Is the Haeundae Sky Capsule worth the price, and which direction should you book?
For our family, the answer was yes—but the experience was much better because we planned the route before booking.
The Sky Capsule runs only between Mipo and Cheongsapo, and each ticket covers a one-way ride of about 30 minutes. You therefore need to decide where to begin and how to return before choosing your ticket. The official route is approximately 2 km long and travels slowly above the Haeundae coastline.
My recommended route is:
Sky Capsule: Mipo → Cheongsapo
Beach Train: Cheongsapo → Songjeong → back toward Mipo
This allows you to experience the private Sky Capsule first, explore the Cheongsapo and Songjeong area, and then use the Beach Train to return without booking another capsule.

Sky Capsule fares are charged per capsule rather than per passenger. A four-seat capsule may carry five passengers only when the group includes a child under age seven who meets the official age condition. Otherwise, passengers must reserve according to the number of people in the group.

My Recommended Sky Capsule and Beach Train Route
The route I recommend is:
1. Take the Sky Capsule from Mipo to Cheongsapo
The Mipo area is easy to combine with Haeundae Beach, restaurants and accommodation around central Haeundae.
The capsule ride takes about 30 minutes. Because each group receives a private capsule, families can take photos, talk and enjoy the view without sharing the space with strangers.
2. Explore Cheongsapo
After arriving, spend some time around Cheongsapo.
The area is known for its fishing-village atmosphere, seafood restaurants, cafés and coastal scenery. You do not need to rush directly back to Mipo.
3. Take the Beach Train from Cheongsapo to Songjeong
The Beach Train continues farther east than the Sky Capsule. It travels through stations and viewpoints between Mipo, Cheongsapo and Songjeong. The entire rail section is approximately 4.8 km, and one end-to-end journey takes about 25 minutes.
You can continue to Songjeong Beach, look around and then return toward Mipo using the appropriate return or multi-ride Beach Train ticket.
Why This Combination Works
The Sky Capsule is the more private and visually distinctive experience, but the Beach Train is more practical for covering a larger part of the coast.
Using both allows families to experience:
- A private capsule above the coastline
- Cheongsapo’s cafés and coastal village
- Songjeong Beach
- A convenient return route toward Mipo

Mipo or Cheongsapo: Which Direction Is Better?
Both directions use the same route, but the sea view can feel slightly different.
In our experience, the Mipo-to-Cheongsapo direction gave us a more open view of the water. Because the tracks run side by side, capsules traveling in the opposite direction may sometimes appear between your capsule and the sea.
The difference is not dramatic, and the view can also depend on which capsule lane is operating that day. Still, I would choose Mipo as the starting point when both directions have suitable times available.
Mipo is also convenient when your hotel or morning itinerary is based around Haeundae Beach.
Choose Cheongsapo as your starting point when:
- Your hotel is closer to Cheongsapo or Songjeong.
- Your preferred Mipo time is sold out.
- You want to finish the ride near Haeundae.
- You plan to take the Beach Train outward before returning by capsule.
The best direction ultimately depends on your full-day route rather than the sea view alone.
Our Family Experience on the Sky Capsule
The atmosphere around Haeundae Blueline Park was much livelier than I expected.
There were many international visitors as well as Korean travelers, and the colourful capsules made the entire station feel cheerful before we even boarded. People were taking photos around the platform, and children became excited whenever another capsule passed.
Once inside, the capsule moved much more slowly than a normal train.
The slow speed was part of the experience. We had enough time to look at the sea, take family photos and watch the coast change outside the windows.
The ride did not feel frightening for our children. It travels approximately 7–10 metres above the ground, but the capsule is enclosed and moves at only around 4 km per hour.
It felt more like a moving private observation room than an amusement ride.
The 30-minute ride was also a comfortable length for our family. It was long enough to enjoy the scenery but not so long that the children became restless.
Your Reserved Time Is Not the Exact Departure Time
This is one of the most important things to understand before visiting.
Your reservation shows the time window when you may enter the queue. It is not a guaranteed departure or arrival time.
For example, when a ticket shows an entry window of 11:00–11:30 a.m., you must enter the line during that period. Depending on congestion, your capsule may depart after 11:30. The official guide specifically warns that boarding can be delayed on weekends and holidays.
During our visit, we arrived around 20–30 minutes before the reserved time and waited near the boarding area.
Arriving early gave us time to:
- Find the correct station
- Check the ticket
- Use the restroom
- Locate the boarding line
- Take a few photos before entering
Do not schedule another timed activity immediately after the capsule. Even though the ride itself takes around 30 minutes, waiting and boarding delays can extend the total visit.
How Early Should You Book?
The Sky Capsule is much more popular than the Beach Train.
Popular dates, sunset periods, weekends and school-holiday slots may sell out in advance. Based on our experience, booking around two weeks before the visit is a sensible minimum when you want a specific time.
The official reservation system releases tickets every Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. for the Monday-to-Sunday week four weeks later. Only a limited number of same-day tickets are sold at the stations, and they may sell out early.
For an important travel date, reserve online rather than relying on same-day availability.
Booking Through an Affiliate Platform
Third-party booking platforms may offer Sky Capsule and Beach Train tickets in foreign currencies.
Before purchasing, check:
- Whether you must reserve the boarding time separately on the official website
- Whether the ticket is for Mipo or Cheongsapo

How to Return After the One-Way Sky Capsule Ride
The Sky Capsule does not automatically return to the station where you started.
After riding from Mipo to Cheongsapo, you can choose among several options.
Option 1: Take the Beach Train
This is the route I recommend.
The Beach Train connects Mipo, Cheongsapo, Songjeong and several coastal stops. Purchase the correct ticket depending on whether you want one ride, two rides or access to multiple stations. A one-way ticket does not allow reboarding after you get off.
The train does not use reserved seats, so passengers may need to stand when seats are full. Reboarding waits can also be longer during busy periods.
Option 2: Book Another Sky Capsule
A second capsule ticket gives you a private return journey, but it is the most expensive option and requires another available reservation.
Option 3: Take a Taxi
A taxi is useful when traveling with tired young children, luggage or a stroller.
Option 4: Walk Along the Coast
The coastal path is scenic, but the distance and weather make it less suitable for every family. Do not assume the walk will be short simply because the capsule ride takes only 30 minutes.
Is the Haeundae Sky Capsule Good for Kids?
Yes. It is particularly suitable for children who enjoy trains, colourful vehicles and sea views.
The ride works well for families because:
- Your family receives a private capsule.
- The capsule moves slowly.
- The windows offer wide coastal views.
- The ride lasts only about 30 minutes.
- Children can sit and rest between walking activities.
- It can be combined with Cheongsapo and Songjeong.
Families with five people should check the official capacity rule carefully. Five passengers may share a four-person capsule only under the stated exception involving a child under seven.
The interior space is the same size whether you reserve for two, three or four passengers, so four adults with large bags may find it less comfortable.
Is the Haeundae Sky Capsule Worth It?
The Sky Capsule is not the cheapest way to travel between Mipo and Cheongsapo.
You are paying for privacy, the elevated sea view, the colourful capsule and the experience of moving slowly above the coast.
For our family, it was worth doing once.
The children enjoyed having a capsule to ourselves, and the slow journey gave us time to notice the coastline rather than simply moving between attractions.
It is most worth the price when:
- This is your first visit to Busan.
- You are traveling as a couple or family.
- You value photography and coastal scenery.
- You combine it with Cheongsapo, Songjeong or the Beach Train.
- You reserve a convenient time rather than building the day around a poor remaining slot.
It may feel less worthwhile when the weather completely blocks the view, when your itinerary is rushed, or when you only need transportation between the two stations.
Final Recommendation
Book the Mipo-to-Cheongsapo Sky Capsule when possible, then explore Cheongsapo and continue toward Songjeong by Beach Train.
Reserve in advance, arrive 20–30 minutes early and remember that the ticket time is an entry window—not the exact moment your capsule will depart.
The most important part is planning the return route before purchasing.
With the route arranged properly, the Haeundae Sky Capsule becomes more than a short photo opportunity. It creates a relaxed half-day coastal itinerary that children and adults can enjoy together.
