Our Family’s Artee Rickshaw Experience
For anyone planning Seoul family travel, a rickshaw tour offers a uniquely calm and meaningful way to experience the blend of tradition and modern life.
Seoul is a city where tradition and modernity coexist beautifully, and a rickshaw ride lets you feel that charm in the most intimate way.
A rickshaw is a traditional human-powered carriage,
first introduced to Korea around 1882 through Japan.
In the beginning, it served as a “modern” means of transportation for the upper class and high-ranking officials.
But by the early 1900s, rickshaws became a common sight throughout the city.
A rickshaw is no longer an old relic; it has become a calm and charming way to see Seoul.
Artee Rickshaw — A Reservation-Based, Heartwarming Tour
The Artee Rickshaw Experience operates on a reservation system.
We arrived at the starting point at our scheduled time, exchanged a brief greeting with the guide, and settled into the comfortable seats of the rickshaw.
The kids were already excited the idea of riding a transportation method from 100 years ago felt like a real adventure to them.

The Charm of a Slow Journey — Seeing Seoul Properly
Warm sunlight fell gently over us as the rickshaw moved slowly forward.
Dry autumn leaves rustled under the wheels, and despite being in the middle of the city, the pace felt strangely calming.
It reminded me that when movement becomes slower, emotions deepen.
Our guide shared stories about the neighborhood old hanok houses, quiet alleys, historic spots, and hidden cafés where the light falls beautifully.
Hearing those stories while looking around made the scenery feel completely different from simply walking on our own.
What we appreciated the most was how considerate our guide was:
“Would you like me to stop here for a photo?”
he’d ask before we even requested it.
This thoughtful approach made the tour feel truly personalized.
The kids looked relaxed, enjoying the breeze and the openness of the ride,
and the slow pace made us feel safe the entire time.
The Artee Rickshaw Tour also offers English-friendly guides, so foreign visitors can enjoy the tour comfortably
Walking Bukchon vs. Seeing Bukchon by Rickshaw
Bukchon is a beautiful neighborhood to explore on foot, but its hills and slopes can be challenging when traveling with kids.
On weekends, the crowds can also make walking much slower.
Seeing Bukchon by rickshaw, however, was a completely different experience.
We could sit comfortably and take in the beauty of the area at our own pace.
Curved hanok rooftops,
quiet alleys,
palace walls,
and tree-lined pathways every scene flowed by slowly and stayed with us deeply.

If You’re Planning a Trip to Seoul…
If you’re looking for a calm, meaningful activity to enjoy with your kids,
I truly recommend the Bukchon rickshaw tour.
Walking makes it hard to enjoy the scenery and have a real conversation at the same time.
But on a rickshaw, you can talk with your child without rushing and look at the same beautiful view, side by side.
Those shared moments become the memories that stay with you the longest.
